I'm an Interior Designer. How will this affect me?

Depending on your practice background and whether or not you are registered under the existing Title Act, there are a number of scenarios defining how you will be affected by the new law.

1.
I’m a current registrant. I have taken and passed the NCIDQ examination.
You will automatically receive registration under the new bill along with all the rights, privileges and responsibilities of registration.

2.
I’m a current registrant. I have not taken and passed the NCIDQ examination.
Through your registration you have proven to be an experienced and qualified interior designer, you will automatically receive registration under the new bill and, along with all the rights, privileges and responsibilities of registration.

3.
I am not currently registered in the state of Tennessee but I’d like to be.
Under the new law, you will need to fulfill all of the requirements for licensing in Tennessee. This includes a degree in interior design, successful completion of the minimum required hours diversified and appropriate work experience, and passage of the NCIDQ examination. Once you have met those requirements, you may make application to the licensing board. Until then, however, you may not refer to yourself as an “interior designer” and you may not practice interior design in Tennessee unless it is under the responsible charge of a Tennessee licensed interior designer or architect practicing interior design.
